President Of India

Meet Droupadi Murmu, India's First Female President

A Trailblazing Leader

Droupadi Murmu, a woman of humble beginnings, has made history as India's first female president. Her journey from a tribal village to the highest office in the land is an inspiration to all.

A Life of Service

Murmu was born into the Santhal tribe in Odisha, a state in eastern India. Despite facing discrimination and poverty, she persevered and obtained a degree in arts from Rama Devi Women's University. After graduation, she dedicated her life to serving her community.

Murmu's political career began in 1997 when she was elected as a councilor in Rairangpur, Odisha. She quickly rose through the ranks, serving as the MLA (Member of the Legislative Assembly) for Rairangpur from 2000 to 2009. During this time, she worked tirelessly to improve healthcare, education, and infrastructure in her constituency.

Breaking Barriers

In 2015, Murmu was appointed as the Governor of Jharkhand, becoming the first woman to hold this position in the state. Her tenure as governor was marked by her commitment to tribal welfare and her ability to bridge the gap between the government and the people.

In 2022, Murmu was nominated by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as their candidate for the presidency. She faced stiff competition from former union minister Yashwant Sinha, but ultimately won the election with a comfortable margin. On July 25, 2022, Droupadi Murmu took the oath of office as the 15th President of India.

A Symbol of Hope

Murmu's election as president is a testament to the progress India has made in terms of gender equality. She is a role model for women and girls across the country, proving that anything is possible with determination and hard work. Her presidency is a source of great pride and inspiration for all Indians.
